Full course description

Global Interprofessional Palliative Care

Course Description

This interdisciplinary, interprofessional course brings together graduate students in social work, nursing, psychology, medicine, theology and ministry. Its extensive focus is on the complexities of serious illness and end-of-life care. The curriculum is a component of the pedagogical approach to teaching palliative care, led by expert clinicians. Through didactic and experiential learning, case studies, activities, and reflective practice, trainees will develop core competencies in communication, comprehensive assessments, cultural and spiritual awareness, ethical decision-making, and interprofessional teamwork. Recognizing the importance of interprofessional education and created with input from professionals from multiple disciplines, this training is designed to prepare leaders in hospice and palliative care to deliver high-quality, goal-concordant, person-centered care. The 9-modules of this course are integrated into 14-weeks of an intensive one-year training program at SPARSH Hospice, a Centre for Palliative Care in Khajaguda, Hyderabad (India).
